It’s hard to say where my interest in law began, but I think John Grisham played a pretty big part in it. As a kid I grew up reading his novels, and from the moment I opened my first one I became fascinated with courtroom proceedings, honest lawyers fighting for what was right, judges and juries struggling to figure out who was telling the truth – I was mesmerized by all of it.
While in law school I had the pleasure of working for organizations helping people that were having difficulty with housing and finding a place to live to representing defendants in criminal trials. Once I graduated from Law School and passed the bar exam, I opened my own law firm specializing in injury and wrongful death cases. Representing injured folks is all we do now, and it allows us to get into the courtroom and take cases to trial where a jury decides how much the injured party should receive, not an insurance adjuster or lawyer. We love going to court and while other lawyers run from the courtroom, we run towards it. It allows my firm and I to try those contentious cases where we still get to see the American system of justice in action and where John Grisham himself would be proud of the battles we fight and some of the brow-raising moments we create when fighting for the rights of our clients.
